Sid Meier's Civilization IV (PC Game)

Sid Meier's Civilization IV Gold Edition: Sid Meier’s Civilization IV is the ultimate strategy game offering players the chance to lead their chosen nation from the dawn of man through the space age on a quest to build the most powerful empire and become the greatest ruler the world has ever known. Now, Civ fans can experience more world domination than ever before with Civilization IV: Gold Edition, which includes both Civilization IV and the combat-focused Warlords Expansion Pack.

I like the added variety of leaders and their abilities, seems more realistic and helpful for long term strategy. I also like the addition of more wonders, though they have changed some of the benefits of certain wonders so I needed to get used to the same thing being different.

The good part about Civilzation 4, in general, is its classically addictive nature as are most of Sid Meier's games. Building up your own civilization as other civilizations are trying to do the same is quite intruiging and fun. It is a great concept, and the playability is certainly endless. Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (Xbox)

Elder Scrolls: Morrowind: Bethesda Softworks announces the release of Morrowind Game of the Year (GOTY) edition for the Xbox video game system. This edition includes the original version of its award-winning RPG The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, along with content from the two Morrowind expansions: Tribunal and Bloodmoon. This new product allows gamers to continue their existing games of Morrowind and experience the new quests and areas offered by the expansions. Players who have never played the Best RPG of 2002 can experience Morrowind on Xbox for the first time with all of the added content.

Morrowind was the best-selling and most highly acclaimed RPG for Xbox in 2002, earning Game of the Year and Best RPG awards from numerous publications and sites, including Official Xbox Magazine, Gamespot, Team Xbox, and Xbox Evolved.

"This is something the Xbox community has been screaming for…and it's finally coming," said Todd Howard, executive producer for The Elder Scrolls series. "Players can take their existing characters and continue their adventures in a new product, which is a first for a console game like this."

An epic, open-ended single-player RPG, Morrowind allows you to create and play any kind of character imaginable. You can choose to follow the main storyline and find the source of the evil blight that plagues the land, or set off on your own to explore strange locations and develop your character based on their actions throughout the game. Featuring stunning 3D graphics, open-ended gameplay, and an incredible level of detail and interactivity, Morrowind offers a gameplay experience like no other.

In Tribunal, you journey to the capital city of Morrowind, called Mournhold, to meet the other two god-kings of Morrowind, Almalexia and Sotha Sil. Your journey will lead you to the Clockwork City of Sotha Sil and massive, epic-sized dungeons, where strange and deadly creatures await you, including goblins, lich lords, and the mysterious Fabricants.

Bloodmoon takes you to the frozen Island of Solstheim where you'll experience snow, blizzards, and new creatures, including frost trolls, ice minions, and wolves…just to name a few. You'll have a choice of stories to follow and have the opportunity to defend the colony, take control over how the colony is built up, and eliminate the werewolves. Or, you can decide to join the werewolves and become one of them, opening up a whole new style of gameplay. Get your own Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (Xbox) now! View game description at Amazon.com.

Mario Strikers Charged (Nintendo Wii)

Mario Strikers Charged (Nintendo Wii): The captains from Super Mario Strikers are back, joined by four new ones, and now you can create your own original team by mixing and matching your captain with an all-new cast of sidekicks. All characters have their own sets of special abilities, making each one play completely differently from one another. New captain super-abilities and sidekick skill-shots add a new level of depth to already crazy soccer battles on the most unpredictable and hazard-filled pitches in the Mario universe. Each field features its own set of interactive hazards that alter game play over the course of the game.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Game Play! - There are tons of new single-player modes, from tournaments to challenges to tutorials, but the game truly shines in multiplayer. The game features a robust multiplayer mode—up to four players can battle locally, or they can go online in each specific sales territory for one-on-one matches.

Kickin' Wii Controls! - Building on the frantic fun of Super Mario Strikers, this game gets you into action only possible on the Wii. Primary game play controls use both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck controllers. Use the Nunchuk to control your characters and deploy items. Flick the Wii Remote to perform the defensive "Big Hit" move and flatten foes. To defend against a "Mega Strike" goal attempt, use the Wii Remote to point at the screen and manually defend against multiple balls as they rocket towards the screen!

Mario Strikers Charged is a vast improvement on its original predesesor with more strategy, better Mega-shots, improved sidekicks, and stadiums that fight back. The basics from the original are still here. You got your captains with their Mega-shots, the sidekicks, tournements, and stadiums but each one is tweaked slightly. For one, new captains are introduced and new sidekicks come into play, each with their own skill rating that adds onto the strategy of building the perfect team. Each sidekick also comes equiped with their own little powershot that can have an array of effect and the Mega-shots can now shoot up to six times which means if your the goalie, you have to quick with your pointer to stop the oncoming balls.

Another cool feature is the ball, which changes color the more times you hit it or charge it. purple being the lowest and white being the highest, which means you have a better chance to score.

A very cool bonus feature is the inclusion of Wi-Fi, so you can play other players online. Great add on but make sure your opponent has a good connection otherwise the game play becomes very sluggish and you could lose connection. Other then that, great new feature!

Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge (Xbox)

Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge (Xbox) is an action-adventure game that continues the story of Jack Skellington and his arch-nemesis, Oogie Boogie. Players take on the role of Jack, who must battle bizarre and vicious enemies in order to stop the diabolical Oogie Boogie from kidnapping the leaders of all the Holidays and establishing himself as king. Armed with the amazing "Soul Robber" and the ability to transform into other forms, Jack will have to use everything at his disposal to defeat this evil plan.

Hollywood quality music and voice casting from the film create a truly cinematic experience. The animation is really great. Though it is obviously computer generated graphics, it looks like the same stop motion models in the movie. It really makes you feel like you are in the movie. There is one level where the scenery is completely black and white. This totally reminds me of something out of an Edward Gorey book (a big influence of Tim Burton). It was an awesome level to play.

The story is really creative and cute. Before playing the game, the expectations weren't that high. However, they did a great job with the storyline. The writers for the game stayed so true to the `feel' of the movie. They totally captured the same essence. Basically, Jack leaves Halloween Town for a while and when he comes back the town is abandoned. It turns out that when he was gone, Lock, Shock and Barrel helped revive Oogy. Oogy then developes a plan to take over all the holidays. It is up to Jack to stop him from messing up all of the holidays, armed pretty much only with his Soul Robber (a weapon that Dr Feinkelstein gave him).

The Soul Robber is fun but a tad disappointing. It feel like there was little skill and planning involved in using it. It is found that little use for the pumpkin Jack and Santa Jack aside from burning barricades and getting ghosts out of barrels.

Not only do you kill a lot of mobs, but there are puzzles and secret areas in the game. Viewing the movie actually does payoff as there is a bit of trivia from Corps Kid that pays you some money.

The camera angels were fixed so you didn't have a lot of free reign to look around. This took some getting used to at first, but was fine once you did. The controls were pretty simple for the most part. It didn't take very long to get used to them at all.

The music throughout the game is all from the movie. You will love the music from the movie so naturally like hearing it in the game, but you do hear it repetitively while playing, so it will get stuck in your head when you're not playing it. Just like the movie, singing plays a large role in the game. In fact, it even plays a role while fighting. If you collect enough musical notes while fighting a boss, then you go into this sort of bonus fighting mode. The voice acting was superb as well. They got several of the original voice actors from the movie; and the ones that were not from the movie sound very close to the originals. Pokemon Diamond (Nintendo DS)

Pokemon Diamond (Nintendo DS) is a traditional Pokemon RPG that takes place in a region called Sinnoh.

In the Sinnoh region, there are two Pokemon that symbolize the region. They appear in the Sinnoh reigon's myths and old folklore. One is called Dialga, and is said to have the power to control time. The other is called Palkia, who is said to have the ability to distort space. The sinister organization called Team Galaxy is trying to rule the region by utilizing these two Pokemon's power. During your adventure to complete your Pokedex and become the Champion, these two Pokemon, and Team Galaxy, will intertwine into the story and lead you on a fantastic journey across the Sinnoh region.

When you set off on your travels, you'll be able to play as either a boy or girl Trainer. You will also utilize the DS's dual slots to transfer Pokemon from the GBA Pokemon games and be able to link up with Pokemon Ranger to access more special content. Pokemon fans have caught glimpses of Mime Jr., Lucario, Munchlax and Weavile in Pokemon movies, and these Pokemon will be debuting in this adventure.

After countless spin offs the real deal is here: Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The Pokemon craze has been around for years. Ever since the Red and Blue versions hit way back, Pokemon has been huge. It's tried and true formula has worked for over ten years, and it's pretty apparent that the formula isn't going to die now. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are a lot like the Pokemon games that preceded it, but they've really thrown in some good touches here. Still, most players who've been playing since the Gameboy days, or even as recent as the GBA days will still get a "been there, done that," feeling. Still, the game is good, addictive and it will keep you busy for hours on end.

There's a paper/rock/scissors effect here. Each and every Pokemon has a type, and some of the attacks they use reflect its type. This makes up what deals massive damage, what deals no damage and what deals just normal damage. Grass may be strong against water, for example but grass is also weak against fire, but in turn, fire is weak versus water. This effect plays through with seventeen and different types, and there is no best type because every type has a weakness.

It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play. Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day, and with over 100 new creatures to collect, you can form endless amounts of teams. Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours. To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well, and you never know what they'll throw at you. Your strongest Pokemon may very well become your weakest in certain battles just because of its type. Get your own Pokemon Diamond (Nintendo DS) now! View game description at Amazon.com.

Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge (Nintendo Wii)

Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge: The first Winter Sports title on the Nintendo Wii is a very solid one, especially at the budget price.

Winter Sports 2008 The Ultimate Challenge is the comprehensively improved sequel to last year's winter hit RTL Winter Games 2007. The arcade-oriented winter sports compilation comprises the 15 most popular disciplines spanning 9 exciting sports. 42 missions with final boss rivals recreate the atmosphere of a magnificent international winter sports event in the brand new single player campaign mode, not least owing to the stirring opening ceremony and the final presentation ceremony. The hot seat (4 players) and split screen (2 players) modes feature multiple tournament options and a gripping multiplayer experience as players compete for record times and gold medals.

The presentation is very solid. The game runs with a widescreen mode, has smooth graphics, and good sound. In addition to the in-game music, there are two witty European commentators that provide some interesting and funny banter. There is a very neat opening ceremony, and medal ceremonies complete with national anthems. Load times are minimal, and bugs are non present.

There are over fifteen events in nearly every Winter Olympic discipline. There are two varieties of Speed Skating, several varieties of Skiing, Skeleton, Luge, Bobsleigh, Figure Skating, and Curling. The majority of the events controls very well and provides intelligent and innovative uses of the Wii remote and Nunchuck. With the sliding sports, for example, while on the track you hold the remote in the Steering Wheel fashion. With Figure Skating, you use the remote and Nunchuck like in a rhythm game, very similar to the method used in the Wii version of "Dancing With the Stars." Sadly, the controls for Curling seem to be broken or, at the least, extremely difficult to use. But, all of the other events control very well.

The game has a skill-building career mode, 4-player multiplayer, single event play and traditional tournament modes. Overall, for the price, it's a very solid package that's enjoyable in both single and multiplayer modes. Get your own Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge (Nintendo Wii) now! Test Drive Unlimited (Xbox 360)

Test Drive Unlimited: The real star of this game is the island of Oahu. The whole thing, with terrain and streets modeled down to the meter. Mountain passes, ocean drives, back streets, it's all there. You can even refer to online maps to find your way around the virtual version. There's plenty of eye candy for the sightseer. Lush forests, beaches, rock formations, plantations, private homes, and just enough traffic to make it feel populated. It's surprisingly fun to just pick a luxury car and go for a Sunday drive. And it's not even wasted time, because you get achievements for exploration.

Of course, nearly every mile of roadway is incorporated into one of the pre-planned races and missions, so you will see most of the sights just playing those through. One race in particular takes a 118 mile loop around the entire island. And racing and completing time trials earns money that can be used to buy more cars and homes to store them in.

The selection of vehicles is disappointing, no doubt due to licensing issues. There are plenty of supercars, and the American major manufacturers are all well-represented, but there are no Japanese brands besides Nissan, which only offers two versions of the 350Z. BMW and Porsche are also missing. Customization is limited to a choice of wheels, paint, and pre-set performance levels. As a result, the cars all feel somewhat interchangeable, with little reason to pick one high-downforce, 200MPH+ monster over another.

The cars that made it into the game are nicely modeled, however, and some of the older models do have some character. The option to set seat position for the inside view is a nice touch that makes it feel more realistic. The physics model seems decent, especially with the traction control turned off.

I doubt I'll end up buying every car in the game, but I may pick up the achievement for exploring the entire island. And if I really need to take a Porsche through Kolekole Pass, I might just have to book a trip to Hawaii and do it for real. Get your own Test Drive Unlimited (Xbox 360) now! Nintendo DS Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends (Nintendo DS)

Nintendo DS Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends: If you've always dreamed about having your own dog, be sure to give Nintendogs a try for your Nintendo DS. The game helps to teach you the skills necessary to care for a pet!

There are three different types of Nintendog games out there - Chihuahua, Dachshund, and Labrador Retriever. Each game has a different group of dog breeds available in it. If you get all 3 games you get the full collection of dog types - but there are plenty enough to choose from with just one game.

You start out by choosing a dog and naming it. The simple interactions come first of course - tossing a tennis ball, petting the dog, teaching it to sit. Your pet learns to respond to your voice commands, and develops a personality depending on how you interact with it. You take your pet for walks, feed it, give it water, and most of all provide it with love and affection.

As you progress with your pet, you can teach it more tricks, play frisbee with it and enter it in a variety of competitions. You can earn money, buy new treats for your pup, and even customize the home you live in. If you have other Nintendo DS owners in your area, you can even share pet time together and exchange information!

It's delightful to see a game that doesn't involve violence or destruction. Sure, if you neglect your pet it will get upset. But in general, you can go as slowly as you wish, caring for your pet, knowing that it will unashamedly love you back completely.

There are millions of people out there who simply cannot have a real pet. Some are allergic to pets, some have tiny apartments where there is not enough room for a pet. Some kids are simply too young for a real pet and have parents who will not take on the responsibility. There are many, many reasons that a real pet would be impossible - and the Nintendog is the perfect solution! Get your own Nintendo DS Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends (Nintendo DS) now! RummyLux: Playing Online Rummy: I just got addicted to Rummy. Rummy is a skill-based card game played with two to four players. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Playstation 3)

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008: The world's most popular soccer game is back under a new name, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Formerly Winning Eleven, PES 2008 builds upon the competitive spirit embodied by it's predecessor. PES gamers will find the most immersive, vivid soccer experience they've ever played. New animations, new teams & leagues, and on-line play. The new team version AI is more intelligent than ever.

Critically acclaimed, multi-million selling and still the most respected football title on the planet, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 continues to surpass everything that went before it. Player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo and England star Michael Owen endorse the quality of PES 2008 by using their considerable talents alongside the game. As well as anticipating the new look of the outside package, fans will be eager to know what new changes can be found inside the gameplay of PES 2008.

PES 2008 will feature a brand new intelligence system, called Teamvision, that adapts and reacts to players' own gameplay styles, to ensure that the computer controlled opponents are always challenging and forcing the player to think and change their style of play to avoid being out-thought by the game.

It will learn counter attacks that target your weaknesses and look to exploit any repetitive tactics that you use. Defenders react better to danger, closing down the ball and charging at shots, and the goalkeepers will hold shots that are closer to them as well. Teammates will make more intelligent runs into space, and the close control has been sharpened to ensure quick and fluid passing and speedy attacks can be built. Burnout Paradise (Xbox 360)

Burnout Paradise: In Burnout Paradise players are treated to a rarity in the video games universe: a complete reinvention of an established franchise that equals, if not betters any of the previous games in the series. Yes, this is a large claim, but one that can be explained in a single phrase: Next-Gen Freedom.

Although the Burnout series’ over the top mobile action has been its calling card since it ignited audiences on the PS2 in 2001, and later on the first generation Xbox console, Burnout Paradise is the first game in the series that has been designed specifically for play on Next Generation consoles. This has allowed game developer Criterion to rip the training wheels off the game and rebuild it from scratch. The result is a new, expansive world that players can roll through at will. And what a world it is.

Heaven on Earth, at least to road-raging, crash-causing Burnout fanatics, Paradise City is your domain and ultimate proving ground in Burnout Paradise. This expansive driver’s playground stretches across 250 miles and encompasses all sorts of road driving conditions, from fun-in-the-sun seaside cruising boulevards, to mountain roads and downtown gridlock. But regardless of what stretch of asphalt you find yourself on, the beauty of this place is that nothing is blocked off and your wits are at least as important as the horsepower under your hood when it comes to racing here. Elder Scrolls III Morrowind (Xbox)

Elder Scrolls III Morrowind: Morrowind can be described with a single word: mind-numbingly-massive. You can do virtually anything you want. There is a main quest, but there are also hundreds of side quests (over 350 of them), and the game is completely nonlinear. You can be a hero, a villain, a pilgrim, a saint, or even a vampire. You name it, and chances are you can be it. There are also no geographical constraints; you can wander where you want, when you want.

The amount of control you have in Morrowind is stunning. When you create a character, you can either choose from premade classes, have one assigned to you depending on how you answer a questionnaire, or create your own class. You can also choose one of 13 signs under which your character is born, which will give you bonuses, handicaps, or both. There are so many stats and skills to accumulate, you can easily spend hours experimenting with character types before you even start the game.

The game itself is gorgeous. The graphics, sound, frame rate, all smooth as silk. You can spend hours just looking at the outlandish scenery and picking the flowers (literally). The musical score is rousing, and never gets old. The different creatures and people have their own voices and sounds. This is a game that makes anything but high-end computers cry, and it works on the Xbox without a hitch. Get your own Elder Scrolls III Morrowind (Xbox) now! View game description at Amazon.com.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PlayStation 3)

Ninja Gaiden Sigma: Superior graphics on PS3 Sigma version with enhanced colors and gameplay speed. Three brand new Chapters added to PS3 Sigma, totaling 18 Chapters. Rachel is playable character now including updated story line. 25 new Missions in Mission Mode for both Ryu and Rachel.

New enemies & 3 new Boss characters, totaling 70, with retuned & enhanced AI. New weapons including dual-wield katanas, double swords, Ninja magic, and others. New combos and special action moves such as running & fighting on surface of water. New destructible environments and items. New innovative six-axis controller functionality to assist in fighting enemies. Additional content made available later in 2007 to further enhance the Ninja Gaiden Sigma PS3 experience. 5 difficulty levels, including access to easier “Ninja Dog” level at any Chapter during game allows for playability for all skill levels of gamers.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma puts realistic battle and acrobatic ninja moves at your fingertips. As Ryu Hayabusa, you are seek revenge after your clan is massacred by the Vigor Empire. All you have are your wits, sword and skills. Your weapons & combat skills are great, but only time will tell if they're enough to beat the Holy Emperor and reclaim the magic sword named "Ryuken". Upload your Karma scores on the Playstation network & compare leader boards.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma, first and foremost, is a challenge. To most players, Normal difficulty will seem like Very Hard (forget the fact that you can also unlock a Hard, Very Hard, and Master Ninja difficulty setting upon subsequent completions of the game). The additional difficulty levels do offer extra enemies, items and weapons, making it worthwhile to brave the storm. There's a bit of a learning curve with respect to controlling Ryu's movements and battle maneuvers, and the diverse catalog of enemies forces you to make full use of his vast array of techniques to survive.

If you take the time to perfect your combos, the battle system can make you feel like a pro. If not, it can make you feel like a novice, even if you are a hardcore gamer. The additional character, Rachel offers a new (if somewhat one-dimensional) experience to the series, with her own unique weapon and move set. There is little special strategy required to defeat any of the bosses, and some of the bosses you will encounter multiple times over. There are no difficult puzzles to solve; virtually everything can be accessed by killing that one monster with the key to progress. Ryu's weapons can be upgraded and improved by spending Yellow Essence gained from fallen enemies, offering a huge catalogue of special moves and techniques to choose from. NHL 08 (PlayStation 3)

NHL 08: It's hockey season and with EA NHL 08 for PS3, you're not merely a spectator. You're a power within the game. Whether you're forming your team, managing it, or playing to win - it's got you in it. And your involvement may influence your team's season performance. Can you drive your team home to earning the Cup? GOALIE MODE - Take on the hardest job in sports and seize control of your goaltender with a new 3rd person camera. Stack the pads, butterfly and make glove saves with your entire team depending on you. From player likeness, to the signature jersey tucks and sock preferences - each athlete is rendered with a meticulous attention to detail.

At first blush, the game seems to good to be true. Despite that it runs at 30fps, it somehow doesn't look as bad as Madden 07 for the PS3 did. The graphics are clean and the menu system is responsive. The controls, although complicated, I feel will allow for a much richer hockey experience in the long run.

I expect most of the reviews for this game to be 4 or 5 star, so there will be plenty of positive things to say in those other reviews.

Every online game I have played in the past week has seen me hit the goalposts at least three times per game. This wouldn't be so bad if I was scoring 5-6 goals per game, but I'm not. I routinely get shut out or score only one goal, yet I almost always ring the post three times or more. I like to take wrist shots from the slot, a lot of other players prefer to deke or wiggle around for all their goals. I was hoping for a more realistic experience when it game to wrist/snap shots.

However, the game has improved vastly from the 2007 PS2 version and even the 2007 Xbox 360 version. You can do virtually any move you want to and you are in full command of whichever player you control. Get your own NHL 08 (PlayStation 3) now! View game description at Amazon.com.
